These Emerson Alums Were Nominated for Grammys

Two Emerson alums are up for three Grammy Awards this year.

Video director Bryan Schlam ’08 is nominated for Best Music Video (Tyler Childers’ “In Your Love”) and engineer/mixer Dan Viafore, MA ’09 is in the running for both Record of the Year (“Vampire”) and Album of the Year (Guts) for his work with Olivia Rodrigo.

Viafore has worked with wide variety of artists in addition to Rodrigo, including Demi Lovato, Sam Smith, Sleater-Kinney, One Direction, Lucy Hale, R5, and Zendaya, among others. He also has worked on a number of films, including Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, R5: All Day, All Night, and The Marvel Experience, an interactive traveling attraction. This is the first time he has been nominated for a Grammy.

In addition to shooting videos for Childers, Schlam has worked with The Black Keys, Jeff Rosenstock, and Miya Folick, among others, as well as commercials for national brands including GM, Pizza Hut, Dollar Shave Club, and Amazon Music. He also directs fashion shoots and short films. This is his first Grammy nomination.

In 2015, alums Daniel Kwan ‘10 and Daniel Scheinert ’09 (aka Daniels) were nominated for a Grammy for their music video (DJ Snake and Lil Jon, “Turn Down for What”). Eight years later they collected three Oscars, including Best Picture, for their feature film Everything Everywhere All at Once.
