NEWMAC Names Emerson Women’s Basketball Player Athlete of the Year

Women’s basketball guard Bri Frongillo ’26 was named the 2025 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, March 5, becoming the first in the program’s history to receive the honor.
Head coach Bill Gould and assistant coaches Jenni-Rose DiCecco and Natalie Fraioli received NEWMAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
Frongillo, a Media Arts Production major, earned a spot on the all-conference first team, and Charlotte Levison ’24 a graduate student in Sports Communication, took all-conference second team honors.
Frongillo led the league with an average of 22.5 points and 5.2 assists per game, while also pacing the conference with 21.5 points and 5.6 assists per contest in NEWMAC league play. She owned a conference-best 86.5 percent free throw percentage, and ranked sixth in field goal percentage with 42.9 percent.

During the season, Frongillo picked up four NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week nods, and a pair if NEWBA Player of the Week honors. She also earned a spot on the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week after nearly posting a triple-double in Emerson’s 78-62 win at Babson to open conference play.
Levison ranked second on the team with 10.0 points per game, alongside 7.5 rebounds per game. She tied for second in the league with 1.8 blocks per contest.
Gould, DiCecco, and Fraioli earned the program’s second Coaching Staff of the Year honor after guiding the Lions to a 16-10 season and a trip to the NEWMAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed.
Salve Regina knocked the team out in the Quarterfinals, 93-87. No. 1 seed Smith College won the tournament in a 79-66 contest against 6-seed MIT.
On the men’s side, center Linus Helmhold ’26, an Interdisciplinary Studies major, was named to the all-conference second team.
The men, also seeded 4, beat Springfield, 67-50 in the Quarterfinals, but fell to no. 1 seed WPI, 93-73, in the semis. Clark (2) won the tournament.
