Info About Orange Line and Green Line Shutdowns
In order for the MBTA to accelerate major track and maintenance work, Orange Line service will be completely suspended from August 19 through September 18.

The 30-day Orange Line shutdown will overlap with diversions on the Green Line E Branch and the Green Line Union Branch. The Commuter Rail may be the best option for many Orange Line riders during this shutdown. Riders can simply show their CharlieCard or CharlieTicket to conductors to ride the Commuter Rail in Zones 1A, 1 and 2 at no charge.
MBTA Shuttle and Bus Routes
The MBTA is running free shuttle buses during the shutdown from Oak Grove to Haymarket/Government Center, and from Forest Hills to Back Bay/Copley. For a map of the shuttle bus route, visit page 7 on Planning Ahead.
The MBTA encourages system riders to utilize the following preexisting bus lines: Routes 39, 43, 92, 93, CT2, and Silver Lines 4, 5.

Green Line Info
Beginning Monday, August 22, through Sunday, September 18, service will be suspended on the Green Line between Government Center and Union Square to allow the MBTA to perform final-phase construction work necessary to open the Medford Branch, which is now anticipated to open in fall 2022.
During the Green Line shutdown, riders traveling between Government Center and Union Square will board free and accessible shuttle buses, which will make stops at Lechmere station and the Lechmere station bus loop.
