Introducing New AVP for Facilities Joan Martinez Cuerva

Dear Emerson colleagues,

With much enthusiasm, I am excited to announce that Joan (pronounced joe-ahn) Martinez Cuerva will join Emerson as the new Associate Vice President of Facilities and Campus Services. Joan begins his new role next Tuesday, November 12.

Joan brings extensive experience in facilities and campus services, having spent the last 14 years  in Boston at Simmons University, most recently in the position of Assistant Vice President of University Real Estate Development and Facilities Management.

At Emerson, Joan will be responsible for the many service areas within the portfolio including our core facilities functions of maintenance, cleaning and overall care of our Boston campus (coordinating with ELA and Kasteel Well), space planning, construction and real estate management, utilities, and sustainability to name a few.

Joan takes over from Duncan Pollock who is departing the College after 11 ½ years in various roles within facilities, most recently as Associate Vice President, Facilities & Campus Services. Duncan has led the team through some of the most consequential projects of the last few years including the Little Building expansion, the Student Center, Piano Row and 2 Boylston Place, and most recently, the opening of the fitness center, in addition to many classroom and facilities upgrades, and so many other important projects. We thank Duncan greatly for his years of service to Emerson College.

We have developed a detailed onboarding plan for Joan over his first few weeks. This includes meeting members of the Facilities and Campus services team, an in-depth tour and debrief of Emerson’s facilities, and connecting with other leaders across the College.

Please feel free to send Joan a note, welcoming him to Emerson. While his home base will be 20 Park Plaza, please be sure to wish Joan well when you see him out and about on campus every day.

Vice President for Administration and Finance & CFO
