Emerson has once again made it to the top 10 of U.S. News & World Report’s list of Best Regional Universities (North), rising one spot from last year’s ranking to tie for #8 and tying for #3 in Most Innovative Schools (North) – a three-spot gain over last year.

This is the sixth year in a row that the College has maintained a top spot in its category, sharing it’s eighth place with St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

U.S. News also ranked Emerson #11 in Undergraduate Teaching (North).

“I am extremely proud and gratified that U.S. News has once again recognized Emerson’s hard work and achievement in creating an exceptional and innovative education in the arts, communication, and liberal arts,” said Interim President Bill Gilligan.

In ranking Best Regional Universities, U.S. News looks at metrics in nine categories: graduation and retention, graduation rate performance, graduate indebtedness, social mobility, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources, student excellence, and alumni giving. Twenty percent of a College’s score is based on assessments from top administrators at peer institutions.

The Most Innovative Schools were selected by asking college presidents, provosts, and admissions deans to nominated up to 15 institutions that are making the most innovative improvements in the areas of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology, or facilities.

“These rankings enable top college officials to pick schools that the public should be watching because of cutting-edge changes the colleges are making on their campuses,” U.S. News explains.

Emerson tied with Fairfield University, Merrimack College, and Providence College in the Most Innovative category.

As with the innovation category, Best Undergraduate Teaching Programs was ranked based on surveys of top administrators at peer institutions. Emerson tied for 11th with Champlain College and Manhattan College.

Last month, the Hollywood Reporter ranked Emerson #6 among U.S. film schools, three spots ahead of its 2020 ranking.

Emerson ended up on a number of Princeton Review lists in the 2022 edition of The Best 387 Colleges. Most categories were unranked this year, however Emerson was named one of 223 Best Northeastern colleges, and was included in the Top 50 Green Colleges. It also made it onto several of the Princeton Review’s “great” lists, including Great College Radio Station (one of 28), Great College Theater (one of 23), and LGBTQ-Friendly (one of 28).
