After careful consideration for the health and safety of our community, Emerson College has decided it will not field teams for competition for the Fall 2020 athletic season. Emerson joins several other Massachusetts colleges and universities, both in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) conference and other athletic conferences, in an approach that puts the health and safety of the entire community first during this very uncertain time. No decision has been made regarding the winter and spring seasons at this time.
We realize this is devastating news not only for our athletes who participate in men and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s cross country, but also for the community who watch, cheer, and follow the successes of these teams. Although this was a very difficult decision, the health, safety, and well-being of our students will always be paramount. The College is grateful for our athletes’ hard work and perseverance and looks forward to the ability to return to competition soon.
