Ferrara on Status of Muslim Schools in France

Sociocultural anthropologist and Marketing Communication assistant professor Carol Ferrara co-authors a piece with Françoise Lorcerie and Vincent Geisser for the academic news site The Conversation on a recent court decision to uphold Averroès High School’s state contract, reversing previous cuts.

While the outcome of this judicial sequence remains to be determined, the political and media context is, however, less unfavorable to state-approved Muslim establishments in the spring of 2025 than it has been in recent years. Several news items have drawn media attention to the operation of  non-Muslim private establishments . It emerged on this occasion that Catholic establishments are very rarely inspected ; Jewish establishments  would never be . This state of affairs contrasts with the repeated inspections to which Muslim establishments are subject.
