Newman and Raynauld Answer if U.S. Can Lead on AI Regulation: CIO Dive
Communication Studies Associate Professor and Director of the DC Program Vincent Raynauld and Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies Associate Professor Russell Newman spoke to CIO Dive about whether the United States can lead the world in regulating artificial intelligence (AI).
The topic has been mentioned by both presidential candidates, saying they’d do it with different methods. Newman provided his thoughts on whether it matters who is elected in regards to AI regulation.
Congress is not likely, under any administration, to actually congeal around a unified stance on AI. But if we’re not talking about regulation, and we’re just talking about ‘winning the AI race,’ you could do it with whoever gets elected.
While AI is a topic that’s been talked about in this election cycle, Raynauld explained why it’s not one of the top issues. He added he thinks AI will become important in political platforms in the future.
People have a mushy understanding of what AI is and how AI works.
