Campus Update – Follow Up

Dear members of the Emerson community,

It is with deep sadness that we write to you today to share the news of the death of a member of our student community. At the request of the student’s family, we are not providing any additional details at this time.

Although the investigation is ongoing, the Boston Police Department has not shared any security concerns. If there is ever a security threat to our campus, or need for immediate action, we will notify the campus via Emerson Alert and text/voicemail.

The College has set up a gathering area for students on the second-floor, Room 225, of the Little Building. Counseling staff and chaplains will be present throughout the day today until 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Eastern Time.

If you, or someone you know, is in need of assistance as you mourn this loss, there are several resources on campus available to students, staff, and faculty including the Healing & Advocacy Collective, the Office of Spiritual Life, the Employee Assistance Program, Emerson Counseling and Psychological Services. Our counselors are here to comfort and support you and will be offering on-campus counseling services over the next several days to students who may need assistance. The College has professional staff on call 24 hours a day and can be reached by contacting any member of the residence education staff, or by contacting ECPD at 617-824-8555.

During this difficult time, we ask you to be kind to each other as we collectively grieve the loss of a member of our community.

Sincerely,

William Gilligan,
Interim President

Jim Hoppe,
Vice President & Dean for Campus Life
