Dr. Pinder on Teaching Critical Race Theory: The Seattle Medium
Dr. Anthony Pinder, Vice Provost for Internationalization & Equity, contributed to a recent article examining the question of whether Critical Race Theory (CRT) should be part of the K-12 curriculum in the United States.
This year, Republican lawmakers in almost half the country’s states proposed legislation related to how race may be taught in the classroom.
In this context, the article looks at recent laws passed in the state of Washington that mandate CRT training for all public school teachers, and other ways the state will include it in their school systems.
Pinder says:
The very essence of a liberal education makes teaching of Critical Race Theory an educational imperative. An accurate teaching of any country’s history should not be denied.
