Presidential Search Update

Dear Members of the Emerson Community,

We are writing to update you on the search for the next president of Emerson College. As our community prepares for the transition that will follow President Pelton’s departure, the College’s Board of Trustees has been actively planning a presidential search process that will be thoughtful, thorough, and inclusive of feedback from students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Thanks to President Pelton and the College’s senior leaders, the teaching and scholarship of our faculty, as well as the creativity and innovation of our students and alumni, Emerson has claimed its place as a global, premier institution devoted to the arts, communication, and the liberal arts. Over the last quarter of a century, the College has experienced a period of remarkable growth and transformation that our next president will continue for current and future generations of Emersonians.

We are pleased to announce the College has hired StorbeckSearch, an internationally recognized firm with more than 20 years in higher education experience. StorbeckSearch conducted the previous presidential search for President Pelton, as well as searches for several of the College’s senior administrative and academic leaders. StorbeckSearch is committed to working proactively to recruit excellent and diverse pools of candidates to ensure an equitable and inclusive process for all.

As shared with you previously, Michael MacWade, MA ’84, treasurer, trustee, and incoming Board Chair, will serve as Chair of the Presidential Search Committee. We will continue to provide regular updates to the community. The search committee will include representation from governing board members, students, faculty, staff, and alumni. There will be additional opportunities for community input built into the search process.

Our number one priority is to find the right president to lead this extraordinary college. We intend to move promptly with the goal of identifying our next president by the end of the academic year. The feedback from our community will be of utmost importance. We look forward to sharing more details as this process moves forward.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Greenhawt ’68
Chair, Board of Trustees
