VMA’s Cooper on TV Doctors: Time Magazine

VMA professor Tom Cooper, who teaches media ethics, contributed to a piece regarding the influence of TV doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic. During times of uncertainty, these figures have a central role, and people can hang on ever word and take their advice (dangerous or not) to heart.

Walter Cronkite was considered the most trusted American when he was an anchor and he would always end with ‘And that’s the way it is.’ There’s that almost pontifical pronouncement that people want in an age of uncertainty. All of that is what audiences are looking for from TV doctors now.
