Jabari Asim’s “If You Must Think of Lynching, Think of This” Commentary for Cognoscenti
MFA Program Director of Writing, Literature and Publishing and Elma Lewis Distinguished Fellow Jabari Asim penned a piece for WBUR’s Cognescenti, in response to President Trump’s recent comments comparing his impeachment probe to lynching.
Asim writes that if one thinks of lynching, they should think of historical figures fighting for justice, the thousands of people who lost their lives to lynching, and the unsuccessful attempt in Congress to make lynching a federal crime.
This is the history that should come to mind when ‘lynching’ is invoked. If instead, you conceive of a petulant president and bickering partisans, think again.
