ArtsEmerson Executive Director David Howse is featured in the Boston Globe’s Bold Types Series, highlighting Boston’s business leaders, as ArtsEmerson’s 10th anniversary season begins this fall. Howse spoke with business reporter Janelle Nanos about ArtsEmerson’s work to foster inclusivity and diversity in the arts. Howse and Nanos begin their conversation on Malcolm X Boulevard in Dudley Square, at the site of a mural dedicated to Malcolm X. This season, ArtsEmerson premieres Detroit Red, which follows Malcolm X and his journey beginning in Roxbury.
“We, as an arts and cultural community, have a storied history when it comes to being inclusive and welcoming to all people, and in spite of our best intentions, we haven’t gotten it right yet,” Howse says.
