The Unlikely Strummers, a 25-member ukulele band based in Plainville, was featured on WCVB’s Chronicle recently. Founded by affiliated faculty member and anthropologist Cynthia Miller in 2017, the group has members with a range of interests, musical abilities, and careers.
According to Miller, ukuleles are experiencing a “huge boom” and are not too challenging to pick up. In addition to performing, Unlikely Strummers also gives back to communities, through fundraising for local hospitals and donating ukuleles to public libraries.
The band is competing in The Battle of the Ukulele Bands on April 20 in New Hampshire, and more information can be found about the group on their website.
