National Test of Public Warning System – October 3

Dear Emerson Students, Faculty, and Staff,
Please be advised that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) on Wednesday, October 3, at 2:18 pm EST.

The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of national emergency messages. This is the first national WEA test to cell phones. The test message will be a presidential alert, and will read “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed”.

Please note that this is a national alert test that will be originating from FEMA. This test is not part of our internal Emerson Alert Emergency Notification System. Additional information on FEMA alerts can be found at: www.ready.gov/alerts.

Thank you,

Chris Beaurpere
Director of Emergency Management
