Meet You Backstage!
Marisa DeFranco ’20 is now $200 in EC Cash richer, but we’re all winners, because now we finally know what to call the café on the ground floor of 2 Boylston Place: Backstage.
DeFranco’s suggestion was picked out of more than 170 submissions to the name-the-café contest by a committee consisting of Assistant Vice President of Campus Services Duncan Pollock, Marketing Communication Chair Brenda Wrigley, Vice President and Dean for Campus Life Jim Hoppe, Anne Makielski ’17, and Aliyah Brown ’18, Hoppe said.
Emerson College Today asked DeFranco, a Media Arts Production major, about her 15 decades (maybe?) of fame:
ECT: How did you come up with the name?
MD: I wanted to keep the theme of Emerson buildings having an entertainment-type name, such as Piano Row, Paramount, and the recently built Center Stage! Since Center Stage has the [wider] eating options, I figured Backstage would be the best name, since it has smaller snack options but still is a place to relax and get work done.
ECT: What did you do when you heard your name was the winner?
MD: I was super excited! I named an Emerson building, which I think is pretty awesome to have done.
ECT: What’s your regular order at Backstage?
MD: I’ve been recently addicted to their White Chocolate Mocha; it’s great during those cold Boston days! For breakfast, I’d get a bagel, but for a snack I usually go for their chocolate chip or banana muffins!
