Six Soon-to-Be Graduates on Emerson
On Sunday morning, members of the Emerson College Class of 2017 gathered in a Boston University gym waiting for the signal to file into Agganis Arena and get their diplomas.
Emerson College Today took advantage of the captive audience to ask six randomly selected students four questions about their time at Emerson and what lies ahead. Some of the responses have been condensed and edited for clarity.
Samir Ahmad Beria and Claire Hayes Miller
BS, Marketing Communication (both)
What was your favorite class or who was your favorite professor?
Beria: “Creative Concepts with Peter Seronick.”
Miller: “Me too!”
Why?
Beria: “Practical, creative executions that could test your realistic ability to have an idea.”
Miller: “We made portfolios.”
What will you miss most about Emerson?
Miller: “I feel like every day was different, because we have such a diverse student body; it’s ridiculous.”
Give me one word to describe how you feel right now.
Beria: “Hungry.”
Miller: “Nervous.”
What’s next?
Miller: “I’m working at a marketing agency [in Boston].”
Beria: “This week, I’m looking for jobs. [Down the road] making a lot of money, hopefully.”
James Canellos
BFA, Media Arts Production
What was your favorite class or who was your favorite professor?
“Production Management with Amy DePaola [spells it for a reporter]. The fact that I remember her name and how to spell it shows how great she is.”
What will you miss most about Emerson?
“Mostly the people.”
Give me one word to describe how you feel right now.
“Mixed.”
What’s next?
“Moving to LA. Filming.”
Hao Li
BA, Sound Design/Audio Post-Production
What was your favorite class or who was your favorite professor?
“Pierre Archambault, Sound Design. He gave us very interesting assignments.”
What will you miss most about Emerson?
“I’ll just miss how everyone is working together all the time.”
Give me one word to describe how you feel right now.
“Excited.”
What’s next?
“Moving to New York and hopefully I’ll get a job with a post-production company. After that, maybe move to China or move to Japan.”
Jordan McNair
BFA, Theatre and Performance
What was your favorite class or who was your favorite professor?
“Dialect with Amelia Broome. She is the best educator I’ve ever had in my life, and she is the best educator at Emerson. She pretty much took the phonetic alphabet and taught it to us like [we were] kindergartners…so we can take on any dialect. ”
What will you miss most about Emerson?
“I’m going to miss when it rains at 2 in the morning and you’re just coming out of a house party.”
Give me one word to describe how you feel right now.
“Satisfied.”
What’s next?
“I am going on a three-week trip to Europe… [Later] I’m going to possibly be the production assistant for my LA internship.”
Camila Zagarzazu Sartori
BS, Journalism
What was your favorite class or who was your favorite professor?
“I liked Music Journalism. It was taught by Tim Riley, who knows everything about the Beatles, so it was great. I had to write my final paper about the music in ‘Hey Jude.’ It was awesome.”
What will you miss most about Emerson?
“I just love the creativity. I like that everyone is super passionate about whatever they’re doing…It’s a really great environment to be in.”
Give me one word to describe how you feel right now.
“Excited.”
What’s next?
“I don’t have a job yet. I’m a dog walker, but fingers crossed!”
