Emerson College Appoints Four New Trustees

Chairman of the Emerson College Board of Trustees Jeff Greenhawt ’68 and President Lee Pelton have announced the appointment of four new Trustees, effective immediately for a three-year term.

Broadcast engineer, executive, and industry pioneer Ira Goldstone ’71; principal at Miller-Pomerantz Insurance & Financial Services of New York Robert Miller, P ’18; marketing and management leader and philanthropist Susan (Hammel) Namm Spencer ’61; and global leadership and sales consultant Pat Peyton ’84 will join 23 other Emerson Trustees who share fiduciary responsibility for the College and work in collaboration with the president, senior administrators, and faculty on strategic initiatives that will strengthen the Emerson experience for students now and into the future.

“We are very glad to have these outstanding individuals join the Board of Trustees. They each bring distinctive qualities and offer varied expertise that will further enhance the Board’s fiduciary role to the College,” said Greenhawt.

“These new members of Emerson’s Board of Trustees will offer the College valuable insights and perspectives as we strengthen our position as the global hub for arts and communication in higher education,” said President Pelton.

Ira Goldstone ’71

Ira Goldstone has spent more than 48 years in the television industry, holding positions ranging from broadcast maintenance engineer to senior engineering management. As vice president of engineering at both Tribune Broadcasting and subsequently Univision Television Group, he focused on developing strong engineering teams across the organization with a vision toward developing new technology solutions to support the daily requirements and workflows of the company.

Currently, Goldstone is executive engineer at Fox Networks Engineering and Operations (Fox NE&0), where his focus is on the design and implementation of next generation advanced IP based routing, distribution, and delivery technologies. He is an active member of several Advanced Television Systems Committee technical groups including chairing the small group on High Dynamic Range. Additionally, he represents Fox NE&O on several National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) engineering technology groups. He is also a fellow of the Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers as well as the recipient of the 2004 NAB Technology Leadership Award.

He is a graduate of Emerson College with a BS in Mass Communications and consults with the College on the ongoing technology upgrade, design, and operations of its Television Production and Journalism facilities. He served on Emerson’s Board of Overseers from 1994 to 2009. The College’s Alumni Association honored him in 2002 with the Issachar Hoopes Eldridge Award.

Robert Miller, P ’18

Robert Miller of New Canaan, Connecticut, is a principal at Miller-Pomerantz Insurance & Financial Services of New York, a firm founded by his father, Sidney Miller, in 1951. The firm has thousands of clients, including a number of Fortune 100 companies. He is the past president (September 2011 to September 2012) of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). In addition, he has served as a volunteer lobbyist to the insurance industry and played a pivotal role in fostering support within the industry for the Affordable Care Act.

Susan Namm Spencer '61

Susan (Hammel) Namm Spencer ’61 

Susan (Hammel) Namm Spencer is a resident of Jupiter, Florida, and Larchmont, New York. A leader in marketing and management, her past experience includes 15 years of vice presidential, management, and marketing roles at Citibank/Citigroup. She also served as CEO and marketing director of two HMOs, in New York and Connecticut.

Spencer is the founder of the William I. Spencer Fund for head and neck cancer research and treatment at NYU Langone Medical Center and has raised $1.9 million for the organization. A strong advocate of children’s programs, she participated in the Guardian Ad Litem volunteer program in Palm Beach County and continues her 17-year weekly commitment with Head Start as part of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County. 

She has served on the boards of YWCA of Greater New York City, Surprise Lake Camp (past Treasurer), and Emerson College. An oil painter, Spencer has exhibited her work in New York and Florida. She currently serves on the boards of the Lighthouse Center of the Arts (past president) and the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. She holds a BS in Mass Communications from Emerson College. 

Pat Peyton '84

Pat Peyton ’84

Pat Peyton is an innovative leadership and sales consultant with more than 30 years of experience partnering with global organizations to enhance their leadership, management, and sales performance. Clients include multinational companies such as Cisco Systems, Hewlett Packard, Google, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Credit Suisse, Barclays, Johnson & Johnson, American Red Cross, Time Inc., Tiffany and Co, FedEx/Kinko’s, Shell Oil, Chevron, and Raytheon.

Peyton’s consulting, coaching, and training design and delivery services have helped hundreds of clients globally establish and enhance sales, service, and leadership/coaching cultures, generating significant increases in revenue, customer satisfaction, employee retention, and profitability. She has garnered national and global awards in the fields of sales leadership, organizational development, sales, and career and life planning.

Prior to establishing her own consulting practice, Peyton was chief design officer/senior vice president for Richardson, where she led the consulting practice and design team and personally managed key global client relationships responsible for 20 percent of the company’s revenue. Prior to Richardson, she served as director of communications for Manchester International, a human resources consulting firm, and training manager for Merrill Lynch Capital Markets.

Committed to community service, Peyton served as Chairperson of PhillyVolunteers from 2001 to 2003. She has been a member of the Alumni Board for Emerson College since 2006. She holds a BS in Organizational Behavior from Emerson College, with postgraduate work in International Finance and Organizational Behavior from European University.
