Emerson College Partners with Barcelona School

Dr. Scott Ratzan, MA ’86, founding co-director of the Emerson–Tufts Health Communication program and vice president of global corporate affairs for Anheuser-Busch, delivered the keynote address in Spain.

Global communication, education in a technological world, the partnership between Nike and FC Barcelona, and gastro-diplomacy are some of the topics to be addressed in a three-day conference held this week in Barcelona and sponsored by Emerson College and the Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations. The event is the first inaugural joint conference sponsored by the institutions.

Students, graduates, and faculty from other European universities will also participate in the conference, which is open to the public. Titled “Summit: Global Communication, Public Diplomacy, and Civic Engagement,” the event is part of a collaborative agreement signed by President Lee Pelton and Josep Maria Carbonell, dean of the Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations.

The Emerson delegation is comprised by faculty and students from three of the four departments of the School of Communication. Dean Philip Glenn is heading up the delegation, which includes Associate Professor Gregory Payne, Senior Scholar-in-Residence Cathryn Cushner Edelstein, Assistant Professor Vincent Raynauld, Senior Lecturer Keri Thompson, Affiliated Faculty Mohamed Khalil, and a number of students.
