Library releases JASPER academic journal
Emerson’s Iwasaki Library in April published its first issue of JASPER: the Journal of Academic & Scholarly Prose & Emerson Research.
The Library opened submissions for JASPER, a new e-journal, in Fall 2014 in an effort to provide a showcase of Emerson students’ best coursework and academic writing.
After editorial evaluation and anonymous peer review, the editorial board selected four submissions for publication. The four authors represented in Issue 1 are: Shannon Bushee ’15, Rae Peckham ’17, Rachel Cantor ’17, and Cassandra Clarke, MFA ’15.
Their papers were written for classes in the Writing, Literature and Publishing Department, and the Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies.
JASPER is now accepting submissions for its second issue. All scholarly nonfiction and research-based coursework completed at Emerson is eligible for submission.
The deadline for Issue 2 is September 26, 2015. This issue will also include shorter pieces of review–book reviews and film reviews showing critical assessment rather than the traditional thumbs up/down judgment.
Unlike research-paper submissions, reviews are accepted from faculty and staff as well as students and alumni. JASPER intends to put out a new issue each semester and to highlight the work done by students and faculty crafting and practicing academic excellence.
