Public meeting for CSD reaccreditation

The Communication Sciences and Disorders Department will host a site visit team from the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) on Monday and Tuesday, October 28 and 29. This visit is part of the department’s reaccreditation process, which takes place every eight years.

The evaluation team will meet with many individuals, including administrators, academic and clinical faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, and clients, in order to assess the department’s ability to provide a high-quality graduate program in speech-language pathology.

On Monday, October 28, from 11:15 am-12:00 pm, in Room 912 at 216 Tremont St., the team will convene a public meeting for the community. This will be an opportunity for community members to speak directly with the team members.

The Standards for Accreditation of Graduate Education Programs in Speech-Language Pathology and the CAA’s Policy and Procedures on Public Comment are available on the ASHA website. These documents may also be obtained by sending a written request to the Accreditation Office at ASHA, 2200 Research Boulevard #310, Rockville, Maryland 20850, or by calling ASHA’s Action Center at 1-800-498-2071, or by sending an email to accreditation@asha.org.

The visiting team members from the Council of Academic Accreditation include:

  • Monica Hough, professor and chair of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Florida International University
  • Sherrill Morris, chair, School of Allied Health and Communicative Disorders, Northern Illinois University
  • Roger Grimsley, speech-language pathologist, WakeMed Health and Hospitals, Raleigh, North Carolina

A reaccreditation review offers a time for reflection regarding the process that the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at Emerson College has made in the last eight years and a platform to inform the program’s next steps. The department invites the Emerson community to welcome the visiting CAA team members to the campus.
