Emerson ranks high among top colleges and universities

Emerson has placed highly in various recent surveys that aim to give prospective students and their parents insights into choosing among the more than 6,000 colleges and universities in the United States.

The College was named a “Best Northeastern College” in the Princeton Review’s 2012 edition of the Best 376 Colleges, which is based on student surveys. Emerson also ranked fourth on Princeton Review’s list for “Best College Radio Station,” sixth on its list for “Best College Theater,” and third among “LGBT-Friendly.”

Emerson garnered a mention in this year’s The Fiske Guide to Colleges, a report on more than 300 of the best and most interesting colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain, compiled by a former New York Times education reporter.

Forbes included Emerson College as one of “America’s Top Colleges,” a list in which Forbes includes only the top 20 percent of all undergraduate institutions in the nation (which totals roughly 650 schools).

In July 2011, the College’s Department of Visual and Media Arts was named one of the world’s 25 best film schools by the Hollywood Reporter. The selections were made based on consultations with industry insiders, executives, filmmakers, and film school graduates. Emerson ranked eighteenth among the schools on the list, which included New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, the American Film Institute, and the University of Southern California.

Emerson was also recently named number two on Newsweek’s list of colleges with the “Most Artistic Students.” Newsweek says the list includes “the most selective campuses that offer an exceptional artistic atmosphere.” Emerson ranks ahead of schools such as New York University, the University of Southern California, Kenyon College, Oberlin College and Rhode Island School of Design.

Additionally, for those students interested in studying in one of the communications fields, USA Today recently named Emerson among the top 20 colleges in the country making good of social media. According to the listing, “there are an exceptional few colleges who have truly done great things in social media, becoming influencers and brainstormers online,” and Emerson is among them. Emerson is ranked number 10 on the list, which also included Stanford, Harvard, and Notre Dame. Boston-based Her Campus Media, publisher of an online magazine for women collegiates, also recognized Emerson’s social media prowess, ranking the College number two on its list of top 10 social-media-savvy colleges and universities.
