Emerson mourns the loss of a Trustee

Emerson College Trustee Robert Courtemanche has passed away after a brief illness. He was 72.

“While Bob had served on the Board of Trustees for less than a year, he had already contributed substantially to its deliberations on a wide range of issues, especially those involving finance,” said President Lee Pelton. “We will miss his friendship and expertise.”

Robert Courtemanche served as an Emerson Trustee since October 2010.

A resident of Dover, Massachusetts, for the last 10 years, Courtemanche worked at Wellington Management Company, LLP for 34 years, retiring in 2000 as senior vice president, securities analyst, and portfolio manager for institutional accounts.

He was appointed to Emerson’s Board of Trustees in October 2010 and had previously served since 2009 as a non-Trustee member of the College’s Finance Committee. He was chair of the Investment Committee and a Board member of the Emerson–affiliated literary magazine Ploughshares.

Courtemanche was also a member of the Board of Directors of The Center for Arts in Natick (TCAN), where he was a member of the Foundation Grants Committee and Finance Committee, and an active box office volunteer since March 2001. He also served as a Trustee for Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston. One of his great interests was adopting greyhounds and supporting Greyhound Friends in Hopkinton.

A member of the Harvard College Class of 1962, Courtemanche also attended Columbia Law School.
