Bensussen wins award for direction of play

Melia Bensussen, chair of the Department of Performing Arts, received the Best Director of a Play award in the BroadwayWorld Best of Boston Theatre Awards for her direction of the Huntington Theatre Company’s Circle Mirror Transformation. The show also won the BroadwayWorld award for best play, and was included in the “Shirley, VT, Plays” promotion in which three separate Boston-based theater companies each produced a piece of playwright Annie Baker’s work. Bensussen has directed plays throughout the United States — Baltimore Centerstage, Hartford Stage Company, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, La Jolla Playhouse, the New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater – and has won an Obie, the highest Off-Broadway award.
