What You Need to Know About Student Loan Forgiveness

In August, the Biden Administration announced forgiveness of up to $20,000 of federally-held student loan debt and several other updates and changes. Information about the new programs and next steps for borrowers is evolving, and every announcement of a new detail of the plan brings new questions for borrowers.

Presenters:
Carol Smolinksy, MA ’14 is an Accredited Financial Counselor who comes from a unique background as an interactive performer, teaching artist, and financial educator. She has worked for Emerson in multiple roles in Student Financial Services and Student Success for the last five years, and is currently serving students and alumni as Director of Financial Wellness, Education, & Communications.
Catie Hogan, ’09 is Head of Curriculum and the Founding Coach at Parthean, a personal finance education company. Previously, she was an associate at Element Financial Group, and the founder of Hogan Financial Planning, where she focused on the planning needs of those in arts, entertainment, and tech.
Hogan is also an award-winning comedy writer and occasional performer. She’s written two humorous personal finance books, performed a TEDx Talk on using humor in financial education, and is a longtime writer with the theatre group Sketchworks Comedy. She also serves on the board of Performing Arts Education of Georgia and the Emerson Alumni Board. While at Emerson, Hogan served as captain of the Emerson softball team, winning conference championships and earning bids to the NCAA tournament in both her 2007 and 2009 seasons.
