Kalala ’27 Gets Real World PR Experience Through Competitive Fellowship

Public Relations major Victoria Kalala ’27 is one of eight students nationwide to receive a fellowship from the PRSA Foundation, which supports five- to eight-week paid internships at global PR and communications firms.
Kalala was matched with V2 Communications, a Boston-based agency providing PR and strategic communications services to tech brands, including Rocket Software, Breakthrough Energy, Best Buy Health, Cloudera, and Ui Path.
“Victoria’s acceptance into the PRSA’s Foster the Future program is emblematic of Emerson’s commitment to excellence,” Executive-in Residence and Emerson PRSSA Advisor Kevin Mercuri said in a story in the Communication Studies newsletter. “Following her time at V2 Communications, Victoria will serve as president of the college’s PRSSA chapter, where she will oversee a year of events and opportunities for students.”
The fellowship recipients use a curriculum developed by PR agency Mission North, one of the eight fellowship sponsor agencies, for its The Future Is … Fellowship, a diversity initiative aimed at empowering future generations of PR/communications professionals.
Kalala and the other fellows will be recognized at the PRSA’s ICON 2025 conference in Washington, D.C. in October.
“All of us in Communication Studies are so proud of Victoria receiving this prestigious award, which is a testament to her creative talents and passion for a career in PR,” Communication Studies Chair Dr. Gregory Payne said in the newsletter.
