Presti-gious Honor: Thunder’s Sam Presti ’00 Named NBA Executive of the Year

Sam Presti ’00, the architect of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s NBA-topping, 68-win season, has been named the league’s Executive of the Year.

Not one to toot his own horn, Presti, the team’s executive vice president and general manager, said the accolade should be shared with the entire OKC organization.

“An award such as this is really the result of our players and their commitment to our program,” Presti said to ESPN.com. “They push themselves in all capacities for the good of the team. I’m fortunate to work with this particular collection of men and I do not take their professionalism for granted.

“We have an incredible coaching staff and support staff, many who have been here for over ten years as the team behind the team, and I see their excellence day to day, in ways that are invisible but invaluable to a sustainable organization.”

Presti received 10 first-place votes from a panel of 30 basketball executives – one from each team – who ranked their top three choices. Presti was selected on 22 of 30 ballots.

This is the first time Presti has won the award; he had been a runner-up three previous times. Presti has led the team since 2007, when the team was the Seattle Supersonics, one year before the organization moved to OKC and was renamed. He was only 29 at the time
