Matt Shearer ’09 Introduces WBZ to New Audiences: Boston Globe
The Boston Globe profiled WBZ NewsRadio reporter, man-about-town (literally) and alum Matt Shearer ’09, whose viral Instagram and TikTok posts have made him an Internet star and a mainstream media ambassador to social media natives.
Known for his laugh-out-loud profiles of Massachusetts towns and only-in-New England features, “has racked up millions of views online for the more than 103-year-old station on TikTok and Instagram, platforms where news outlets have struggled mightily to gain ground. His account, @reportermatt, has over 83,000 followers on Instagram, and@wbznewsradio has north of 200,000 on TikTok,” the Globe reports.
“I really do believe that journalism is an art form,” Shearer, a WERS Hall of Famer, told the Globe. “I want to have an opportunity to be creative and tell these stories without feeling like I’m doing it as an influencer, without feeling like I’m doing it to promote somebody or some business.”
