Alum-Produced Films Nominated for Golden Globes

Emerson alums executive produced four films nominated for Golden Globe Awards on Monday, December 9, and one movie alone, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, was executive produced by two alums.

Emerson College Trustee Seth Grahame-Smith ’98 created the story for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, nominated for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and executive produced it alongside Peter Chiappetta ’06. Chiappetta also executive produced Twisters, nominated in the same category.

Cinematic and Box Office Achievement is a new category, and recognizes the year’s “most-acclaimed, highest-earning and/or most viewed films.” Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton and a sequel to Burton’s 1988 film, Beetlejuice, took in $451 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Twisters, a sequel to 1996’s Twister and directed by Lee Isaac Chung, took in $371 million.

Max Kondziolka ’16 was an executive producer of The Brutalist, and John Harrison ’71, an executive producer of Dune: Part Two, both up for Best Motion Picture – Drama.

The Golden Globes, presented by the Golden Globe Foundation, which represents international journalists covering the American entertainment industry, will be awarded on Sunday, January 5, at 5:00 pm PT/8:00 pm ET, and will be televised on CBS.

And while not on the ballot, Joe Mande ’05 is a co-executive producer, and has a recurring role on Hacks, nominated for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
