Riley on Maestro, Ray Padgett & Bob Dylan Band Members: LA Review of Books

Journalism associate professor and graduate program director Tim Riley recently examined the film Maestro, starring Bradley Cooper as Leonard Bernstein, and Ray Padgett’s book Pledging My Time: Conversations with Bob Dylan Band Members.

On Maestro:

Cooper, who voices the raccoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy film series, identifies with all these high-low tensions Bernstein grappled with, but the script (written with Josh Singer of 2015’s Spotlight) has more heft than weight. Like Bernstein, it gets carried away with itself.

Riley says author Padgett is “ambitious” and the work is “teeming” (with interviews).
