Video: An ‘Opportunity to Re-Story’ Our National Origin

Ronee Penoi (Laguna Pueblo and Cherokee), interim Executive Director of ArtsEmerson and interim Vice President of the Office of the Arts, shared what Native American Heritage Month means to her in a video message to the community.

She reminds community members that many acknowledge a national day of mourning on Thanksgiving, and offers a number of ways to celebrate Native American heritage this November.

“Here, on Massachusett, Wampanoag, and Nipmuc lands, we have a rare opportunity to re-story the origin of what we know as the United States, and to reckon with histories of genocide and land theft,” Penoi says.
