Keeping Safe During Extreme Heat Emergencies
Good afternoon,
Due to anticipated extreme heat in Boston’s weather forecast, Mayor Wu has declared a heat emergency in the City of Boston for Thursday, July 27, and Friday, July 28.
In an effort to keep our students, faculty, and staff safe during heat emergencies, we ask that you please sign up for Alert Boston if you have not done so already, and familiarize yourself with the heat safety resources found on boston.gov/heat. In addition to looking out for signs of heat stress and heat stroke for yourself, please also keep an eye out for colleagues, loved ones, and neighbors that might be especially vulnerable to the impacts of extreme heat. If you must spend time outside and/or without access to cooling, then we remind you to please prioritize hydration, shade, and rest however possible, and consider establishing a buddy system with co-workers, neighbors, and/or loved ones to ensure that you and your community can check in on each other and stay safe in the heat.
Please see attached a factsheet with information on how to beat the heat in Boston, which can be found in additional languages here.
Stay Well,
