Richard on Meta’s Threads: CBS News and WBZ News Radio

David Gerzof Richard, senior affiliated faculty in Communication Studies and CEO of BIG FISH PR, talked to CBS News Boston about Meta’s launch of the Threads social media app.

Richard said the fact that more than 30 million people reportedly signed up for Threads on the first day suggests people are eager to find something to replace the embattled Twitter app since Elon Musk’s takeover. And he said it represents an opportunity to create an online space that cuts through the noise.

“If we can start with a situation whether it be Threads or Bluesky or whatever the app is that is going to take this place, and actually make it good and nice that would be the great opportunity as I see it,” said Richard.

Richard also spoke with Jordan Rich, fill-in host of NightSide with Dan Rea on WBZ News Radio 1030, on Thursday, July 6, about the Threads launch (check back for clip). During the conversation, Richard talked about his Social Media Marketing course, where he and his students work on “breaking through the noise” of social media.
