Will Dawkins ’08 is the new General Manager of the Washington Wizards, making him the second Emersonian to currently manage an NBA team.

The Athletic first reported that Dawkins was hired as the GM.

“Over the course of my career I’ve committed myself to doing everything I could, step-by-step, to help build a successful NBA organization, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to now help lead a proud franchise like the Washington Wizards,” said Dawkins via press release.  “I want to thank [Wizards Owner] Mr. [Ted] Leonsis and [Monumental Basketball President] Michael [Winger] for the opportunity to be part of a group that shares the same core values for developing a team that I believe in, values that fans in an incredible basketball city like D.C. can rally behind.”

Dawkins’ has spent the last 15 seasons working under Sam Presti ’00, Executive President and GM for the Oklahoma City Thunder, where another alum, Rob Hennigan ’04, previously GM of the Orlando Magic, is now Vice President of Basketball Operations.

As a Lion, Dawkins was the Student Athlete of the Year in 2008, and is one of the few players to score 1,000 points in their Emerson career (Hennigan was another).

Dawkins is being announced as the new GM in a press conference with Wizards owner and new Monumental Basketball President Michael Winger at noon on the Wizards’ YouTube channel.
