Emerson’s Eco Ambassador team led a Griff Gives Sustainable Move-Out that saved more than three tons of items from being thrown into the trash.
At six drop-off locations across campus, students donated clothing, furniture, appliances, houseware, books and some quirky items.
“We did get a giant stuffed Red Bull,” said Jennifer Lamy, associate director for Sustainability. “Mostly we got a LOT of clothing (including costumes!), bedding, and other dorm items.”
Donations went to several partner organizations. Items that can be used by incoming college students go to Grad Bag; clothing, books, and other housewares go to Goodwill; furniture and appliances go to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore; and all of the food and unopened personal care products find their new home in Emerson’s Student Success pantry.
