ArtsEmerson founder Robert J. Orchard is the recipient of the inaugural Coigney-Arnoult Global Theatre Award, presented by the Center for International Theatre Development (CITD) and the Trust for Mutual Understanding.

The award was presented on March 29 at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. Orchard, along with co-recipients James C. Nicola and Molly Smith, for his lifetime achievements in global theatre collaboration and his ongoing commitment to international arts.

While Orchard led ArtsEmerson, he brought more than 84 global productions from 16 different countries to Boston – many of which would never have visited the city otherwise. With a commitment to Orchard’s vision, ArtsEmerson has since had more than 30 countries represented on their stages.
