Emerson and Babson had very similar records this season. The Lions won one more game in the NEWMAC conference, making them the #2 seed in the playoffs. Unfortunately, home court advantage wasn’t enough, as the Beavers defeated Emerson 69-64 in Thursday night’s NEWMAC playoff game.

Emerson was paced by Jarred Houston ‘22 and Nate Martin ’22 who each scored 19 points. Houston added 18 rebounds and two blocks.

Emerson started the game off slow by not scoring in the first three minutes after tip-off. Emerson kept the game close with 20-18 in the first half being the closest they’d get to topping Babson. But Babson went on an 11-4 spurt that put Emerson in a hole.

Babson went on to stretch their lead to double digits that Emerson was able to whittle back down to 64-59 after Trevor Arico drained a three. The Beavers were able to keep the lead by hitting free throws down the stretch.

Emerson ends its season with a 16-10 overall record (11-3 NEWMAC), and Babson advanced with an 18-8 record (10-4 NEWMAC).
