Interim Provost Jan Roberts-Breslin’s Appointment Extended

Dear members of the Emerson community,

I am pleased to share that Jan Roberts-Breslin, the College’s Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, has graciously agreed to continue to serve in this important role for one more year, through June 30, 2024.

This extended appointment is made with the enthusiastic support of Dr. Jay Bernhardt, who will formally become Emerson’s 13th President on June 1, 2023. Dr. Bernhardt said, “I’m very grateful that Jan will continue in the Interim Provost and Vice President role. I look forward to working closely with her and the Academic Affairs leadership team throughout the first year of my presidency at Emerson.”

In her interim role over the last year and a half, Jan provided Emerson with leadership, stability, and continuity. She successfully navigated our NECHE re-accreditation process, which concluded last fall, and continues to lead our domestic and international academic programs, including new program launches, faculty searches and promotions. In addition, she played an important role in our Community Equity Action Plan and serves as a thoughtful advisor and thought partner to me and the College’s leadership teams. She is indispensable to the College, and will provide valuable input to our incoming president when he arrives this summer.

President-designate Bernhardt will launch a national search for a permanent Provost and Vice President upon his arrival, in accordance with the Faculty Handbook.

I am grateful to Jan for her dedication, leadership and willingness to continue her role during this significant time of transition for our College.

Sincerely,

William Gilligan,
Interim President
