Gellman on Growth and Impact of Emerson Prison Initiative: CBS Boston

Associate professor and founder and director of the Emerson Prison Initiative (EPI) Mneesha Gellman describes the growth and successes of the program to CBS Boston, which held its first commencement exercises for graduates in September 2022.

The program, launched in 2017, offers an Emerson College Bachelor of Arts in Media, Literature, and Culture to incarcerated men in Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Concord after a select admissions process.

Regarding the first graduating class of 10 people:

Each of the graduates gave speeches, talking about the role of education in their own lives and it was powerful. I mean people were crying, the audience was crying.
