Mitchell on Esports & Gambling in MA: MassLive
Communications Studies affiliated faculty and College EsportsX CEO Kevin Mitchell weighed in on an article examining the sports gambling law signed earlier this year, while the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is now figuring out how it will work in terms of betting on esports and video games.
Mitchell says that the industry has even greater growth opportunities, and we saw a preview during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when no professional sports games occurred:
That’s when you really started to see people embrace it and say, ‘Wow, this could be.’ I mean, they were betting on pigeon racing at that point, right? There was nothing to bet on. That’s when you saw flashes of it.
