Coolidge ’85 Wins First Emmy in Good Night for Emersonians

Jennifer Coolidge ’85 took home her first Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her work on the HBO limited series The White Lotus at the 74th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, September 12.

Coolidge, who portrayed Tanya McQuoid, an emotionally needy guest at a Hawaiian resort, was one of five actresses from the series to be nominated in the category: Connie Britton, Natasha Rothwell, Alexandra Daddario, and Sydney Sweeney. Also nominated were Kaitlyn Dever and Mare Winningham for Dopesick. The White Lotus, the night’s biggest winner, also won Best Limited or Anthology Series.

“I just want to say to my fellow nominees, just to be in your company is incredible,” said Coolidge, who didn’t get far in her acceptance speech before cracking a joke. “I took a lavender bath tonight right before the show and it made me swell up in my dress. I’m having a hard time speaking.”

She then danced through the music playing her off the stage, to cheers from the audience.

Other Emerson Emmy winners:

Rob Paine ’92 was co-executive producer of CBS’ Adele: One Night Only, which won Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). Paine also was nominated in the same category for HBO’s Harry Potter 20^th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. It was his first win.

Laura Ballinger Gardner ’94, art director on HBO’s The Gilded Age, won for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More). It was her third nomination and first win.

Music editor David Klotz ’94 won Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour)for his work on Netflix’s Stranger Things. Klotz has 19 nominations and eight wins.
