Raheem on Racial Blind Spots & Economics: The Hill

Marketing communications associate professor and economics expert Nejem Raheem co-wrote an op ed with economist/senior analyst Eric O’Rear about the need for more diversity in economic policy at the federal level.

The climate policy space, in particular, has very few Black economists. This shortage is part of the reason why we believe that environmental policy has not benefited communities of color to the same degree as the nation as a whole. It is also our belief that this shortage has often led to a failure in accurately estimating the impacts of environmental policies on these communities.

They propose government on all levels enact more effective or new relationships with HBCUs or MSIs, and have academic economic programs work in conjunction with agencies.
