COVID Update: Changes to On-Campus Mask Requirements

Hello,

As we have previously shared, beginning Monday, March 21, following local and state guidance, the College will shift to a mask optional policy for all indoor spaces on the Boston campus, with the exception for in classrooms and academic spaces, as well as when visiting the CHW and ECAPS.

While masks are no longer required, we do know many of us in our community will continue to wear masks when out and about and in certain situations on campus – and we encourage that. We also understand that some members of our community will continue to need to wear masks to protect themselves and loved ones around them. We expect all members of our Emerson community to respect individuals’ choices around mask wearing.

Our goal is that masks will be optional within classroom and academic spaces beginning May 16. We continue to watch our cases, as well as trends within the region, and should it be necessary, we may return to mandatory masking at any point.

Our weekly required surveillance testing program will remain in place through the end of the Spring 2022 term. If you tested positive over or since the winter break, please note that you will be required to return to weekly testing once your 90-day exemption period ends.

As always, should you be experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, please seek medical guidance before leaving your residence.

We thank you for your continued commitment to the safety of our Emerson community and the greater Boston community as well.

Thank you and be well,
Erik Muurisepp
