Alums Aplenty Have Films at SXSW

Emerson College will be well represented at the annual South by Southwest Festival as numerous lions had a paw in at least 17 films.

The Austin, Texas film, music, and media festival, also known as SXSW, runs from March 11 to March 20 this year.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is directed by the Daniels aka Dan Kwan ‘10 and Daniel Scheinert ’09.

Everything Everywhere All at Once, starring Michelle Yeoh, is written, directed, and produced by “The Daniels,” aka Dan Kwan ‘10 and Daniel Scheinert ’09. Other alums who worked on the film include lead visual effects artists Benjamin Brewer ‘10 and Ethan Feldbau ’07, gaffer Matt Ardine ’06, and cinematographer Larkin Seiple ‘07, who also was cinematographer on To Leslie, alongside supervising sound editor Kevin Peters ’11.

Three Emerson alums worked on I Love My Dad, a film starring Patton Oswalt whose character mistakenly catfishes his own son. Producer Dane Eckerle ‘12, line producer Billy Mulligan ‘01, and dolly grip Sean Patrick Henderson ‘15 worked on the film.

Katya Alexander ’19 produced, and Alice Airoldi ’19 edited Pretty Problems. Other alumni producers with films at SXSW include Niki Crawford ’05 (Me Little Me) and Amanda Gill ’02 (Nothing Lasts Forever).

  • Joanna David ’03, costume designer on The Cow
  • David Winner ’90, best boy grip, on The Lost City
  • Peter Szilagyi ’04, art department PA on The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Alums also are participating in SXSW programming:

Anna Feder, Emerson’s head of film exhibition and festival programs, will be presenting on a panel entitled “90 Minute Film School”.

In Comedy programming, Rosebud Baker ’06 is doing the Find Your Beach podcast and Gotham Comedy Showcase. Anthony Atamanuik ’97 is participating in multiple events.

Emerson’s Alumni Relations Department is hosting its first ever Emerson@SXSW Happy Hour on Monday, March 14, at 4:30 pm at the JW Marriott. This event is open to SXSW registrants only and registration is required by visiting Eventbrite.
