Bright’s Doc Severinsen Doc Released on Kanopy

Never Too Late: The Doc Severinsen Story, the 2020 documentary on the legendary band leader co-directed by Emerson Trustee Kevin Bright ’76, is now streaming on Kanopy, available for free to anyone with a college ID or public library card.

The doc, which also was executive produced by Bright, best known as the Emmy Award-winning executive producer of Friends, follows the nonagenarian trumpeter and former Tonight Show with Johnny Carson bandleader on his grueling tour schedule, as he recounts his remarkable life and career.

Alongside Severinsen, the film features musicians such as Arturo Sandoval and Questlove. It was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize in the 2020 Nashville Film Festival.

Bright is the executive producer of the documentaries Best and Most Beautiful Things (2016) and On These Grounds (2021), both directed by alum Garrett Zevgetis , MA ’05. Best and Most Beautiful Things won special jury prizes at the Independent Film Festival of Boston and the Florida Film Festival, and won Best Documentary Feature at the Tulsa American Film Festival.

He also is executive producer of two documentaries by alum Alexander Freeman ’14, slated to be released in 2022: True Value, narrated by Chris Cooper, and Indomitable.
