Ryan’s ‘Liberty Kid’ Featured on HBO Max

Liberty Kid (2007) a feature produced by Visual and Media Arts Assistant Professor Michael Ryan, is being shown on HBO Max this month as part of a collection of 9/11-related films.

The movie, written and directed by Ilya Chaiken, tells the story of two friends who lose their jobs at the Statue of Liberty in the wake of 9/11 and struggle to survive and hang on to their dreams. It won Best Film in the New York Latino Film Festival in 2007 and was nominated for Best Narrative Feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival that year.

Ryan was the producer of Todd Solondz’s Palindromes and Life During Wartime, Phil Morrison’s Junebug, and Kelly Reichartdt’s Old Joy, among other art-house films.
