Walker on “How to Make a Slave and Other Essays”: Greater Boston, Radio Boston, Globe
Writing, Literature, and Publishing professor Jerald Walker recently discussed his new book, “”How to Make a Slave and Other Essays,” with local media outlets. A National Book Award for Nonfiction finalist, the collection documents his experiences writing, teaching, and parenting while Black.
Among the situations Walker describes in the work, of which he read a portion aloud on Radio Boston, is a racist encounter with a doctor while seeking answers to his son’s medical issue.
Watch the Greater Boston segment, listen to the Radio Boston piece, and read the Globe’s Bibliophiles column/interview with Walker.
The New York Times also reviewed his book: “‘How to Make a Slave’ Offers Restless, Brilliant Thoughts About Race.”
