Add a little magic to your Wednesday night when Magic for Humans creator Justin Willman ’02 drops by Emerson screens to chat about his path from the College to basic cable to Netflix.

“An Evening with Justin Willman” will take place on Zoom Wednesday, November 18, 7:00 pm. It’s hosted by Emerson Mane Events, Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL), Alumni Relations, Dining Services, and Graduate Admission, and is open to the Emerson community (up to 500 spots). Join via EmConnect.

“I can’t wait. And I’ll probably drop in some magic bombs on you guys as well,” Willman said.  “Instead of Magic for Humans, we’ll do Magic for Lions.”

A broadcast journalism major while at Emerson, Willman has millions of views on his online videos, has made appearances on The Tonight Show, Ellen, and Comedy Central, and hosted Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. Most recently he created and starred in the Netflix show, Magic for Humans.

“Willman’s brand of magic is peppered with humor, designed to bring people together,” said TV Guide. The Los Angeles Times calls him “A new breed of magician who’s making magic cool again.”

In a February 2020 interview, Willman told Emerson Today he honed his craft at Emerson and worked his way through school doing magic shows.

“I did it for my friends. I workshopped new tricks outside of the Little Building for the smokers. Me, Dan Levy, and Eric Hutchinson would do shows in the Cabaret,” Willman said. “I would do magic all over the place, at bar and bat mitzvahs, libraries, schools all over New England on the weekend.”

Participants will be able to ask Willman questions at the town hall-style event, which will be moderated by Elizabeth Pine ’21 and Dan Reilly ’21.

Prior to the town hall, from 4:00-7:00 pm, students will be able to pick up a “decorate your own” cupcake kit and bubble tea from the Lion’s Den.
