Election Day is Paid Half-Day for Emerson Staff

Dear Emerson staff,

Civic engagement, one of the College’s core values, is vital to a functioning democracy, and perhaps no act of civic engagement is more critical than casting a ballot in a free election.

That’s why we are pleased to announce that this Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020, staff will be given a paid half-day off (3.65 hours). Employees should work with their managers to coordinate at what point in the workday they take their hours.

In offering this paid time off, Emerson is participating in A Day for Democracy, a national non-partisan movement that encourages not only voting, but also meaningful participation in all aspects of the democratic process.

We wholeheartedly encourage you to take advantage of this time and exercise your constitutional right to vote—and to otherwise use this time to engage in the democratic process by volunteering at polling sites, providing transportation to polling sites, holding signs, and the like.

Sincerely,

Lee Pelton and Shari Stier
